MARJANG Architecture is a locally owned design firm with a practice spanning 18 years with work that includes private residential, commercial and public projects. We enjoy collaborating with our clients, whether they are individuals or institutions. Services include tenant improvements, residential remodel and new construction on projects large and small.

We love a design challenge, whether it’s a unique situation, tight budget or just technically complex. We are as innovative as we are practical and believe in design evolution through an iterative process.

Karen Mar, RA, Principal

Karen is a San Francisco native with a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly (1988). Karen is a licensed architect in California (1995) and Hawaii (1996). She has worked primarily in the Bay Area and enjoys gardening, yoga, and spending time on a wide-range of hobbies and with her family, friends, and pets.

Nathan Jang, CFO

Nathan is a San Francisco native with a Masters Degree in Finance from San Francisco State University. He oversees the finances and operations of the firm. Nathan enjoys travel, latin dance and music and spending time with his friends and family.

Robert Soo Hoo, Associate

Robert was born in San Francisco and raised across the bay in Alameda. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 2004. A veteran of the firm for 16 years, he is our Sr. Designer. He looks forward to his next place of travel and an afternoon Giants game.

Bruno Martinez, Senior Designer

Bruno is a native of Brazil and spent time in his youth in New York and Miami. He earned a degree in Architecture from Universitat Politecnica De Catalunya and is a registered architect in Spain. With an early career history in Barcelona and Miami, he recently relocated to California and looks forward to exploring the western United States in his free time.

Khristine Melendez, Designer

Khristine was born in the Philippines and raised in San Diego. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly in 2017 with a focus on Sustainable Environments and is an alumni of the 2019 Glenn Murcutt International Architecture Master Class. In her free time she enjoys puzzles, escape rooms, and a variety of creative pursuits.

Lilliann Dolley, Designer

Lilliann was raised in Michigan and received her bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Michigan. Since graduating she has been fortunate enough to have spent time on the east coast as well as the midwest before relocating to San Francisco. She is looking forward to the new sights and lifelong experiences the west coast has to offer.

Christian Tipping, CE, Senior Designer

Christian is a native of the East Bay, holds an undergraduate degree in Architectural Engineering from Cal Poly SLO (2004) and an MArch from UC Berkeley (2008). Christian is a licensed engineer (CE) and brings a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to design. He finds that  Architecture is very much about the details and the moments we experience interacting with them, consciously or not. He believes everything plays its part in the whole of a project and everything has an opportunity to bring a level of interest, complexity, beauty, and joy. 

Kun Liu, Technical Designer

Kun's early years were shaped in China, growing up in a village nestled by the river, which holds a special place in his heart as a source of spiritual inspiration and sanctuary. He received Bachelor’s Degree of Architecture in his native country and practiced for several years designing mixed-use and high rise projects. He immigrated to the US and received his Masters of Architecture from the University of Virginia in 2019. After his time in Charlottesville, VA he relocated his family to Northern California and in his free time enjoys traveling, hiking, and visiting his favorite architectural works around the world.

Daisy, Mail Inspector

Daisy is a native of Cole Valley and is responsible for raising an alert when packages or mail arrives. She is well known in the neighborhood for giving love in exchange for cookies. She attends some job site visits and makes an occasional appearance at the building department to assist with the stress of pulling permits in San Francisco.
